Video Posts

Welcome to my video blog page. This page contains short videos of  everyday life in Belize and will be constantly updated. I will soon be adding videos of interviews with local tour operators, expat experiences, as well as  procedures in Belize tackling topics from getting your drivers licence, crime, housing, applying for residency, and everything in between. If there is a topic of special interest to you, please let me know by leaving a comment or contacting me directly and I will cover it as soon as possible.

Opening a Bank Account in Belize
Back in Canada we simply showed our identification and made a small deposit, and the banks were happy to open a bank account. In Belize things are a little different and more documentation is required. Hopefully my experience and this short video will help you to come prepared for the process of opening a bank account in Belize.

Life in Belize ~ Cars in San Pedro, Belize.
This video was taken on Front Street (the main street in downtown) at Central Park. Life in Belize and in particular the island towns like San Pedro, is demonstrated by the vehicles that we drive on a daily basis. Take a glimpse into the simplicity that is, “island life”.

Belize Expat Interview #1 ~ Bill Graham (me) shares the importance of doing your research and then, immersing into the culture.
My good friend Sheila Hensley made a video call one day to talk about Belize as a retirement option for her and her husband next year.
We then decided to record our conversation and it turned out that my first expat interview was conducted by Sheila and I found myself being interviewed and telling some of my own story.

Lights, Camera HOA is a platform for new comers to HOA’s (Hangouts On Air) to practice their on air skills. This was my first public opportunity to tell our story and explain the thought process that led to our ultimate move to Belize. An HOA is like having your own Global Internet Television Station courtesy of Google with the ability to reach anyone, anywhere that there is an internet connection.

Do you remember when the fair came to town? Well, San Pedro is no different except at $5.00/ride the children seem content to watch the empty cars go around. Check out the money toss game where you can win either a cute little bunny or a six pack of beer. I guess that is what they mean by fun for young and old.

Literally watch the sun set from our back deck in real time. This is the final 3 minutes of a brilliant sunset over the San Pedro Lagoon. I was lucky to video the vibrant colors of this huge January sun, adding some relaxing music just makes it that much more awesome.

Each year the Cholos Barbies featured in this video raid their wives, mothers, or sisters closets to participate in El Gran Carnaval de San Pedro. This annual event takes place over 11 days and features a block party, a masquerade ball, painting up the town and traditional dancing in the street. Painting in the streets originally represented a day of lawlessness and the opportunity from behind the protection of painted masks for the people to poke tongue and cheek criticism at their government. Cholos Barbies are just one more representation of the idea that for one day things are opposite to the norm.
